Last night at Sauce Spirits and SoundBar in Minneapolis, I participated in the MN Beard-Off. I had a fake beard and it was made of bacon, of course. The bacon was sealed and sewed to a wire-frame. Credit for the bacon beard production goes to my friend, Cousin Pauly!
I was in the freestyle category and was one of 3 finalists!
The event was terrifically awesome and I suggest you check out these photos by my friend Alex and the MN Beard-Off website!
A special thanks to all who cheered for me at the event, and took pictures, and bought whiskey. It was great to meet so many cool people!

I’ve got something important enough to take a break from our regular baconesque post today. Here in Minneapolis, street food vendors are not allowed to park on the streets to sell us delicious, sometimes bacon-filled, tasty food items. There is a hearing TOMORROW. PLEASE ATTEND IF YOU CAN! Here is what Carrie from the Chef Shack has to say about this:
“The Public meeting is coming up, to determine the future of street food in
the greater downtown Mpls area. There is much debate and resistance to this from business owners of the city and warehouse district. For anyone/chef who may be thinking of doing a cart or truck/trailer in the future, this meeting is imperative that people for the movement come out to show their support… City council members have directly informed me that NOW is the time to push this forward, as it may never again surface in legislation.”
Details on the meeting:
A public hearing will be held on Monday, March 22, 2010, at the Regulatory, Energy and Environment Committee of the Minneapolis City Council at 1:30 p.m. in Room 317, Minneapolis City Hall. The purpose of this hearing is to gather public comment on the proposed amendments to allow mobile food vehicles in the Minneapolis Downtown Improvement District (DID). These vehicles may offer a wider variety of foods than the food carts currently authorized in downtown. Licensed vehicles would be allowed on approved locations along the public sidewalk or private property. Much of the Hennepin Avenue sidewalk frontage between 5th Street and 9th Street has been determined to be wide enough to allow mobile food vehicles. Other segments of Hennepin Avenue may also be deemed appropriate.
Highlights of the Proposed Amendments Include:
Mobile food vehicles will be allowed in the Downtown Improvement District.
Vehicles may park on sidewalks or private property.
Vendors may sell foods that can be prepared on the vehicle.
Vendors are required to have a current food license.
Vendors are required to submit plans for the vehicle and the location.
So, if you CAN, please, please, please GO and voice support for this amendment!

Whoever invented bacon + chocolate was a really smart person. Smarter than Al Gore and whoever invented sliced bread. Seriously. You cannot go wrong with chocolate-covered bacon, bacon chocolate bars, bacon-sundaes, bacon-covered and chocolate-dipped anything (tits?). So every now and again I go to Vosges.com and look at their Bacon + Chocolate section. And I drool. And I wonder if anyone will ever buy me the Bacon + Chocolate gift box. Because someone should. I might even prance around in a bacon bra if they did.

In case you were starting to wonder, “Yes, but, when are we getting to the tits?” … I present you with the Bacon Bra 2.0! This bacon bra is the inspiration for this site, the start to my adventures in bacon-clothing, and a way to show off my tits on the internets. (Slightly kidding about the last part).
You may ask, “Formica Dinette, why ever did you make such a thing as a bacon bra?” The answer is threefold. It begins with my love of bacon. I mean, intense, sultry love of bacon. Then there’s the previous bacon bras. Google it. Raw bacon bras. That’s just not appetizing. Who wants to eat raw bacon off someone’s tits and then get some kind of salmonella (is that from eggs?) or raw meat poisoning or whatever one gets from licking raw meat off breasts. The final reason was the challenge. I said I wanted to make a cooked bacon bra. Someone on twitter said I couldn’t do it. There’s nothing that gets me motivated quite like a challenge. So, there you have it. The bacon bra was born.
And if you’re curious as to why it’s Bacon Bra 2.0, well that’s because I made a first attempt. It was pretty terrible. I had to hold it up and the picture was awful and I’d just been to the gym and there was grease all over… well let’s just say it wasn’t a success. But that didn’t stop me from putting it on THE INTERNETS.
So that’s the story on the bacon bra. There’s more bacon wearables to come. There will be something coming up at the end of this month and then I’m hoping to start work on the bacon dress and have it ready for my B.Y.O.Bacon party in April.
Hugs & Kisses,
